Excess dust is ventilated from the home with fans. Starting from top to bottom, cleaning solution is used to remove soot and smoke residue from the ceiling, walls and fixtures, household appliances, down to the floor surface. Filtered vacuums are used to clean dust and particles from flooring and upholstery. Fabric-based items such as draperies and clothing may be laundered or dry cleaned. Most outside walls (brick, stone, wood, paint, siding) can be cleaned of soot using detergent plus a soft-bristled brush and finished off by pressure washing. Depending on the extent of the damage to walls, furniture, and personal property, recommendations will be made whether to restore or replace damaged items.
After the major surface areas have been cleaned and unsalvageable items discarded, residual smoke odor can be eliminated using two approaches. An industrial treatment of ozone gas throughout the home will destroy trace smoke odor molecules, especially in hard to reach places like ductwork. Hot fogging is a technique which employs an odor counteractant fog that also breaks up odor producing smoke remnants at the molecular level.
Since mold can grow within 48 hours, prompt and quick water removal is key. After exterior floodwaters recede, submersible pumps and wet vacs can suction out the majority of the volume. To prevent mold growth, impacted areas can be ventilated by opening windows and using fans. Assessment should be made whether to keep, restore, or discard affected items. Hard to reach spaces need to be exposed for cleaning and drying. Water damaged drywall, insulation, carpet padding, etc. will be discarded. Carpets and wood based trim and hardwood can be salvaged with the right equipment. Resilient materials such as framing, hardwood flooring and vinyl will be cleaned with common cleaning solutions or detergents. Disinfectants are appropriate especially if the floodwaters carry microbial threats. Before any reconstruction, the following stage (drying process) needs to run its course.
Sewage carries a variety of health hazards when it flows into a home. Fungi, bacteria, viruses, and parasites which thrive within human waste can cause serious disease. If the sewage continues to flood and cannot be contained, it is not safe to remain in the dwelling. Trained technicians with protective equipment and proper immunizations will have access to the contaminated area. Saturated materials like carpeting, upholstery, bedding, which cannot be sterilized will be contained and safely discarded. Sewage-soaked drywall, insulation, and other structural materials will need to be discarded and replaced to remove biological hazards. After thorough cleanup and disinfection, environmental testing will be conducted to deem the home safe for habitation.
Drying out your home within 48 hours is key in reducing the chances of mold growth. While water is being pumped or vacuumed out of the affected area, water saturated items need to be removed, including carpeting and waterlogged wall and insulation materials. Besides natural cross ventilation through windows and doors, mechanical air movement by fans and hot air blowers serve to quicken the drying process. Portable dehumidifiers and desiccants (silica gel, clay, calcium oxide) can be applied to further reduce moisture from the air and hard to reach places. Finally, technicians will monitor the area with special moisture meters to determine when the impacted area is completely dry.
We first note the areas that have been attacked by mold both on the surface and hidden behind walls. It may be necessary to determine the type of mold colony we are dealing with by sending a sample to a testing laboratory. The actual cleanup process could be as basic as spraying and disinfecting drywall or more involved such as HVAC disinfection, removal of drywall, stud, and insulation, cleaning personal items, and HEPA air filtration.
Some tips for preventing the incidence of mold include the reduction of clutter to improve airflow, controlling indoor climate and humidity levels, eliminating standing water, installing vapor barriers over crawl space floors, and installing bathroom fans.
The method we use for cleaning is hot water extraction, commonly referred to as steam cleaning. The hot water extraction method removes the toughest, deepest dirt safely and gently. Hot clean water and a specially formulated cleaning solution are injected deep within the carpet fibers. Then, a powerful suction extracts deep-down dirt, allergens, cleaning solution and 95% of the moisture. It’s the cleaning method most recommended by carpet manufacturers.
A light vacuuming in the traffic areas is recommended but not required. If needed, the technician can pre-vacuum the area to be cleaned. Also, the equipment is vacuuming the entire time we are cleaning.
On average, it will take approximately 30 minutes per room. This time can vary greatly depending on the amount of furniture to be moved, how soiled the carpet is, and any necessary spot removal treatments.
There is no charge to move furniture. We will move most types of furniture, and return it to its rightful place when cleaning is completed. There are several items we recommend not moving, such as: pianos, electronics, china cabinets, large and heavy beds, dressers with mirrors, etc. We do suggest you remove items off of your furniture like plants, lamps and knick-knacks.
Dry time is affected by humidity, temperature and air flow to the area. It can take anywhere between 8-24 hours for the carpet to completely dry, depending on the aforementioned variables. Using fans in any rooms cleaned and turning your heating system on, depending on the time of year, can help accelerate drying time. Be sure to leave the protective blocks under furniture legs until the carpet and/or upholstery are completely dry to avoid any color transfer. You may walk on your carpet immediately after cleaning, but avoid wearing street shoes, as they may re-soil your carpet. We suggest wearing clean rubber soled shoes. Be especially careful when walking from damp, carpeted areas on to non-carpeted areas to avoid slipping.
The problem results from residues being left in the carpet which attract dirt. Usually this is caused by the use of soap in the cleaning process that hasn’t been rinsed out completely. Our specially formulated solution and hot water extraction cleaning process leaves little to no residue behind to attract dirt.
Although most spots that are removed from carpet do not reappear, some substances in carpet backing may wick to the surface after cleaning. If this happens, please contact us immediately 907-235-8512.
We cannot guarantee that we will remove all spots or stains. There are substances that can permanently discolor the carpet fibers. The age of the carpet and the type of carpet fibers also plays a factor in this. The technician will try to determine if this is the case prior to cleaning but they are not always able to determine this before trying to remove the spots.
As the carpet dries, these bubbles or ripples should start to lay flat again. Once it is dry they should be virtually unnoticeable. This is usually a sign that the carpet was in need of restretching prior to the cleaning. If these ripples do not go away after it is completely dry, please contact us immediately 907-235-8512.
We are happy to work with you to find a solution for any situation that may arise. In some cases this can mean spot cleaning specific areas of concern or even completely re-cleaning the area in question. In the end, we’re not satisfied until you are.
Manufactures recommend every six months.
Most household cleaners are high in PH so most will dry out the leather. It is recommended to have professional cleaners, with professional products do the regular cleaning.
These help to replace the balance of leather oils that keep it soft and supple.
